HIV Screening
HIV screening is a crucial step in protecting your health and the health of others. Early detection allows for prompt treatment, leading to better health outcomes and preventing further transmission of the virus. At SHIP Clinic, we’re committed to making HIV testing accessible, confidential, and convenient.
Why Get Tested?
• Early Detection: HIV treatment is most effective when started early. Knowing your status allows you to begin treatment sooner, leading to a longer and healthier life.
• Prevention: If you test positive, you can take steps to prevent transmitting the virus to others.
• Peace of Mind: Testing provides clarity and empowers you to make informed decisions about your health.
Testing Options at SHIP Clinic:
We offer a range of HIV testing modalities to suit your needs:
• Rapid HIV Testing (3rd Generation): This test provides preliminary results quickly, using a blood sample to detect HIV antibodies.
• 4th Generation HIV Testing: This highly accurate test detects both HIV antibodies and antigens, allowing for earlier detection of HIV infection.
Please note that SHIP Clinic follows the national guidelines of the Department of Health (DOH) in HIV Testing. Talk to our Case Managers about the details for each testing modality.

When to Consider PEP: PEP is appropriate if you think you may have been exposed to HIV.
At SHIP Clinic, we are committed to providing comprehensive HIV prevention services. Our trained healthcare providers will work with you to determine the best prevention strategy for your individual needs and circumstances.

HIV Treatment
In the event of potential HIV exposure, our clinic provides immediate and effective Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP). This preventive medical treatment, initiated within 72 hours after high-risk events like unprotected intercourse or needlestick injuries, involves a 28-day course of antiretroviral medications. Tenofovir, emtricitabine, and an integrase inhibitor are commonly used to inhibit HIV replication and prevent its establishment and the onset of a persistent infection. Thorough risk assessments by our healthcare professionals determine eligibility, and regular follow-up appointments monitor treatment effectiveness, including HIV testing and addressing potential side effects. It's crucial to note that while PEP is valuable, consistent preventive measures such as condom use remain essential. Individuals considering PEP should seek prompt medical attention, and our healthcare professionals are ready to provide thorough assessments and guidance.
HIV Prevention
Take proactive steps towards health with our HIV Prevention featuring Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP). PrEP involves the daily use of prescription medications, typically a combination of tenofovir and emtricitabine, which work by inhibiting the replication of HIV within the body. This highly effective approach reduces the risk of HIV transmission, especially for individuals at higher risk, such as those in serodiscordant relationships, men who have sex with men (MSM), transgender individuals, sex workers, and injection drug users. During consultations, a thorough risk assessment is conducted to customize a personalized prevention plan. PrEP is recommended as part of a comprehensive prevention strategy, complementing safer sex practices, regular testing, and counseling. Our HIV Prevention services go beyond medication, providing a holistic and tailored approach to safeguarding your sexual health.
Psychosocial Assessment
Embark on a thorough and compassionate journey towards mental and emotional well-being with our comprehensive psychosocial assessment services. Our assessments take a holistic approach, considering the interplay between mental health, physical well-being and various factors. Led by experienced professionals, our psychosocial assessments go beyond traditional evaluations. We provide access to specialized mental health counseling tailored to the unique challenges individuals may face during their HIV journey.Regular follow-ups and ongoing support are integral components of our commitment to enhancing the mental and emotional well-being of those in our care.
